Recently Closed

Recover a closed layout as fresh shells, without replaying old commands.

Find a closed layout

Choose Session → Recently Closed… and select the host. Harness keeps the last 20 closed pane, tab, or session layouts per host. Closing a workspace records its sessions. Quitting the app or disconnecting a host does not add entries.

Restore the right context

  1. Select the entry and review its host and directories.
  2. Restore it to create fresh shells and recover the layout metadata.
  3. Check the restored workspace before starting your tools again.

A restored pane opens as a new tab in its original session when that session still exists; otherwise Harness creates a session. Successfully restored or partially restored entries are consumed to avoid duplicate recovery.

Know what recovery does not restore

Recently Closed is not an archive of terminal output. Search All Sessions searches retained output in sessions that are still open. If a restore only partly succeeds, inspect the partial layout rather than assuming the failed parts are still running.

Remove entries or use the API

Delete an individual entry or clear the list from Recently Closed when you no longer need its layout metadata. This is separate from closing a running session or deleting its scrollback.

Inspect the available recovery schemas
harness-cli api describe closed.restore
harness-cli api describe closed.delete

Use the installed API schema to supply the selected host and entry identifiers. A restore creates fresh terminal processes; a delete removes the stored recovery entry.
